Important information – Before choosing an electric continuous flow hot water heater
- The seasonal average cold-water temperature for Canberra and Queanbeyan is 14°C. Therefore, during the colder months, flow rates may need to be reduced to maintain hot water temperatures. For example, the DHE 18 AU will provide a maximum of 8 litres of hot water per minute at a maximum temperature of 48°C. Reducing the flow rate to 6 litres per minute will increase the hot water temperature to 60°C.
- Given Canberra’s low cold-water temperatures it is unlikely that single phase units will provide hot water at a comfortable temperature and volume for showering.
- Existing power points may not be able to carry the electrical load of a single phase HWS. This may cause circuit breakers to trip. It is best to consult an electrician before choosing one of these units.
- Incoming cold water temperatures may drop to as low as 12°C during winter.
- Most systems are suitable for water pressures up to 1000kPa. We recommend that they operate at around 500kPa to prolong their life.
- 60°C systems will require a tempering valve to limit hot water temperatures to 50#176;C where hot water is delivered to hand basins, baths, bidets and showers. In most existing installations, because there is one main hot water pipe, it may not be possible to have higher temperatures than 50#176;C at all fixtures.
- Single phase Stiebel Eltron hot water systems are suitable for hand basins and sinks only.
- The model and serial number for existing Stiebel Eltron hot water systems will be found inside the fold down or removable cover at the bottom of the hot water system.
- The Stiebel Eltron can also be used as a replacement for Rheem Eclipse 18kW and 27kW instant hot water heaters.
